About CUHKCAS
Cambridge University Hong Kong and China Affairs Society
CUHKCAS is an entirely student-run and non-profit making society at the University of Cambridge. Our aim is to raise awareness of economic, social and political affairs in Hong Kong and China amongst students in Cambridge and beyond. We, as the potential future leaders of our society, feel strongly about the importance of being attuned to the current affairs of the Asia-Pacific region.
China, undergoing dynamic economic growth, has been receiving great coverage as the wakening superpower of Asia. However, we are also aware of the many problems associated with its phenomenal growth, such as rising inflation, the widening gap between the rich and the poor, and environmental pollution. Hong Kong, on the other hand, is still establishing its standing in the international arena. Being one of the premier business hubs of Asia, Hong Kong is facing increasing competition from surrounding areas, while at the same time coping with new challenges, such as political reform, rising property prices, and income inequalities.
We aspire to develop communications and cultural exchanges between East and West, and enlighten participants on key current issues through talks, debates, in-depth discussions and exchange trips. With greater knowledge, better understanding, and closer connections with the leading institutions of our society, we hope we can make our contributions to the future development of our region. Established for 21 years, our Society has a membership base of over 1,000 life members, mostly from Hong Kong, out of which a few hundred are active student members at Cambridge.
